The Unicorn
Collective
The Unicorn Collective was started in Auroville, India, in 2015 when Kaeridwyn and Sarah Cattani decided it was time to enliven a central green space in Auroville. Drawing together artists from the community, Tracks of the Unicorn came to life, birthing the Unicorn Collective.
After Tracks of the Unicorn, the collective turned their focus to creating unexpected wonder at Auroville’s community events. They designed, built and puppeteered the giant butterflies that led the Flutterby Parade and subsequently appeared at other community happenings. They also collaborated with Auroville Upcycling on their Litter-Free Festival, leading workshops in upcycled puppet making. After the workshops, participants puppeteered their puppet fish in a moving “river” as part of a parade.
The Unicorn Collective premiered the upcycled Victor Vert and Firey Fiona at the Trashion Show that year. Victor and Fiona were made from old saris, cardboard, potato/onions sacks, and banyan roots, and they were a hit!
Although Kaeridwyn is no longer active with the Unicorn Collective due to her move to London, they continue to create new work in Auroville. You can find them here.
